Makes You Want To Shout
At Enigin we are just normal folk going about our business - but in life you do get frustrations.
There are times we all face in life when you just feel like shouting out in frustration, often due to some petty bureaucracy, and of course a petty bureaucrat.
“Rules are rules” may often be the term used by the “jobs worth”, or “I can only go so far, the companies/organisation’s directions you see.”
These words maybe backed up with an unsympathetic “I am ever so sorry, but that’s the way it is.”
We do seem to have developed a level of the corporate world that is not allowed, or has been trained, to make decisions or judgments for themselves. It is all tick boxes and check lists - a tick missing and “sorry we can’t do anything.”
Organisationally that is no doubt a good reason for this strategy, but it frustrates clients and belittles staff.
OK, you may say chaos would ensue if employees started making different decisions over issues - yes it owuld, which is why you have guidelines, with the emphasis on GUIDE, an outline of the challenges, problems and solutions that may be faced by a particular situation.
Through the guidelines and good training employees can then offer help and solutions within a broad range of options.
Some would say the reason for the dumbing down is the employing of less able people, which certainly mistreats staff. It is up to an organisation to provide the support, training and knowledge to train their staff to act as humans who can think and not automatons.
Bankers and those int he financial markets are generally regarded as being pretty well educated and with something between their ears - they were left to make huge decisions, it resulted in the collapse of the financial system. Why? Because they were given carte blanche regarding what they had to do - because they were educated to degree level or similar.
It was a mistake, but when dealing with far less important issues that need resolving why don’t more corporations bestow upon their employees a little dignity and training and allow them to make decisions.
Here at Enigin we value or employees and want to listen to their input, they have a say on the future of their work and workplace, they are the ones at the core of the business success.
